Speaking of American Dreams….

Anyone who watched the Democratic National Convention last night saw one come to life.  No, I’m not African-American.  But that doesn’t make what I saw last night any less poignant.  I’ve been a Barack supporter from the start.  He’s young.  He’s vibrant.  He’ll bring the change that I think this country needs, and is ready for.  Does he have years and years of experience?  No.  But he’s smart.  I think he’ll surround himself with the right people, those who can help fill some of the “gaps” he may have.  And the thing is - he wants this job.  Barack is running for president because this is his dream.  He’s not doing it to fulfill the dreams of his parents.  He’s doing it because he saw a need that this country has, and knows that he’s the right one, right now, to fill it.  He wants to help bring America to the power it can be. Not power by invasion, war, and intimidation.  Not power in that way.

This is an amazing country.  We have opportunities here that other people, in other countries, can only dream of.  People come to this country because they know this is where they’ll find the chance of making the life they’ve dreamed of.  We’re not a perfect country.  Far from it.  But still with all our faults and foibles- I’d rather live here than anywhere else.  And I am damn proud to be an American!
