I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it is that I’m most bothered about by my separation from my husband. As I’ve mentioned, we definitely have our issues that got us to this point. For example, I think I’m a lot more ambitious than he is, or that I want more from life than he does. I know he has dreams, but I think our dreams are different. Mine are on a bigger scale – I want a house at the beach as a second home, to be able to travel the world, to drive luxury cars, and have closets full of brand-name clothes. I think he’d be happy achieving success on a much smaller scale.
Even though we’ve been together for years, we’ve been married for less than 17 months. When I factor in that we haven’t been intimate with each other in almost 5 months – or really acted like a married couple in that time – let’s call it 1 year. One year! That makes me feel like a failure on so many levels.
I feel like I’ve let my family and friends down – my parent’s friends and everyone who bought us wedding gifts (most of which are still sitting in my parent’s house because we didn’t have room in our apartment for all of them). Worst of all, I feel like I’ve let my husband down. As he said to me, when he said “til death do us part” he meant it. My actions have not backed up those words. So here we are.
I’m a firm believer in “misery loves company”. So in that vein, and in a vain attempt to make myself feel better, below is a list of the shortest marriages in Hollywood history. Sadly, Hollywood is now the ideal to which I seem to be holding myself.

Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman – 9 days
Jennifer Lopez and Chris Judd – 4 months
Lisa Marie Presley and Nicolas Cage – 107 days
Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray – 5 months
Shannon Doherty and Ashley Hamilton – 5 months
Drew Barrymore and Tom Green – less than 6 months
Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney – 7 months
Tori Spelling and Charlie Shanian – 1 year
Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton – 2 years
I also saw that Helen Hunt and Hank Azaria dated for over 10 years before marrying; their marriage only lasted 11 months.
And just so that we don’t all get the wrong idea that this is indicative of today’s Hollywood (or the “stars” of today), here are a few marriages from earlier than the 1990’s:
